4Y Red Angus

Our herd began with six crossbred cows in 1995, in Northern NY.  In 1996, we purchased our first registered Red Angus sire.  We continued to expand our herd and moved to Niagara County in Western NY in 1998,  moving the herd to our current location in 2000.  We opened Somerset Veterinary Service PC in 2003, servicing beef and dairy clients in the area.  Our farm, 4Y Red Angus, is located about 2 miles from the southern shore of Lake Ontario.

My wife, Rosemarie, and I (Steven) have managed the herd with the help of our boys, Samuel & Joshua.  Samuel now has full time employment off farm.

We initially managed as a commercial herd but added seed stock from Bieber Red Angus starting in 2004, through both bulls and females over the years.  We’re now an all registered herd and have participated in the Red Cow Rally to genomically sample all females.  We’ve relied heavily on herd improvement through AI sires and have recently taken advantage of IVF embryo transfers to increase progeny from the most desirable dams.

We have several blood lines representing top sires such as Bieber Hard Drive,  Bieber Deep End, Bieber Gladiator, Bieber CL Stockmarket,  Bieber CL Stockman, Feddes Silver Bow, Feddes Brunswick,  WFL Merlin,  and 5L Bourne.

Coming from a commercial perspective we strive to build cattle that will be rewarded by all segments of the industry.  We’ve marketed seed stock through the Top Dollar Angus value added program.  We want a productive cow that can produce an outstanding end product whether that’s for a freezer trade customer or sold on a grid at a premium.  We’ve been able to market by private treaty sales to much of the North East and into the MidWest.
